“Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing”
The above quote suits well on the legendary writer Umera Ahmed; a writer who has penned numerous novels which are worth reading and her fine works are worth writing for.
Umera Ahmed, one of the most widely read and popular Urdu novelist was born on 10th December 1976 in Sialkot Pakistan. She completed her Masters in English Literature from Murray College, Sialkot. Later, she joined a college as a lecturer but then left her job to focus on writing.
She began her professional career as an Urdu author and novelist in 1998 with the short story ‘Zindagi Gulzar Hai’ which later became one of the most acclaimed serial in Pakistan and overseas.
One of the reasons that Umera Ahmed is most read writer is that, her story revolves around realistic experience and social problems with women taking the lead. Ahmed makes it a point to uplift and promote the image of women she portrays in her novel in such a way that they can serve as a role model for other women in the society who aspire to climb high and independently in personal and professional life. Examples of this can be found in her well known novels and short stories such as Momina in Alif, Kashaf in Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Imama in Pir-e Kamil and Saba in Meri Zaat Zarra-e-Benishan.
